The Civic Ballet offers two major annual performances: The Nutcracker the second weekend in December and In Concert in April. You may enjoy our dancers at a number of community and company activities throughout the year, including The Italian Festival, the CMC Tree Lighting, The Jaycee’s Santa Parade, Mostly Opera’s Dinner Theatre, and First Fridays.
EVERY COMPANY DANCER PERFORMS! It is the Ballet Company’s philosophy to include every company dancer in our performances. Auditions are held approximately 10 weeks before the performances for casting purposes.
So many aspects of our annual performances celebrate and spotlight northeastern Pennsylvanians. While our dancers are amateurs, our productions are not. We have professionals producing the stage, lighting, sound, costuming and choreography.
Arts collaboration standard is high here at Civic Ballet as Miss Gaus’ company is the ONLY regional dance company to pair her original choreography with live music performance. Most recently Civic Ballet Company has danced to music by two regional professional musician groups, the Wargo-Steveskey Flute and Guitar Duo, and the Doug Smith Orchestra.
The Nutcracker showcases all of our company dancers, ages 8 to 21, all residents of northeastern PA, in a breathtakingly professional holiday production! The grand setting of the Cultural Center offers relaxed reserved seating and the opportunity to enjoy a magnificent production that portrays the childhood joy of the holidays, the elegance of our accomplished dancers and the artistry of our professionals.
The extraordinary choreography of Miss Helen Gaus will leave all with the wide eye amazement of holiday magic. Local artists are also responsible for all the behind-the-scene aspects of the show: costuming, lighting and scenery for the production, and contribute significantly to the beauty of the production.Add Content...
Workshops are offered periodically giving our dancers an opportunity to expand their dance experience. Most recently our company enjoyed the opportunity to practice movement and choreography with Ellen Cornfield Dance of NYC, and went on to perform with the Cornfield Company in her premier in our 2010 In Concert.
Our dancers march in the parade annually alongside Clara and the Mouse King on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
