Dear Civic Families,
First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. As we continue to navigate through this unprecedented time, we are excited to let you know that after careful consideration and planning, we will be re-open the studio beginning September 9, 2020.
The health and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority. Below you will find a summary of the actions we are taking to help ensure we are lowering COVID-19 risk as much as possible, while still allowing our students to enjoy dance. All teachers, staff and the Board of Directors have received training to ensure compliance with CDC guidelines. As per CDC recommendations, we are:
Intensifying cleaning and disinfection within our studios and premises by cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces including in each studio at least daily and between each class and ensuring safe and correct use and storage of disinfectants.
Reducing physical closeness or contact between students when possible by allowing students to focus on technique (like barre and center combinations), keeping students in small groups, and staggering arrival and drop off times, putting signs and tape on floors ensuring that teachers and students stay 6 feet apart, discouraging unnecessary physical contact, such as holding hands, handshakes and hugs.
Promoting healthy hygiene practices by providing hand sanitizer before and after each class, encouraging students to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or to use the inside of their elbow, and reminding them to wash their hands frequently.
Requesting that teachers, staff, parents/ guardians and caregivers wear a cloth face covering at all time. Students must wear a mask when traveling around the studio. Masks are not required while actively dancing. As a reminder, cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children younger than 2 years of age, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cover without assistance.
Due to the limited space in the building and social distancing requirements, we will be instituting drop off/ pick up guidelines. They are as follows:
All students will be dropped off at the front door. Students will be greeted by either a staff member, teacher or board member who will ensure they are taken to their class. Every individual that enters the studio will be asked to verify that they are not experiencing or have not had any COVID-19 symptoms.
At the end of class, students will be brought to the front door for dismissal. Lilliputian students will be dismissed from the back door which is located on the side of the building in parking lot.
Due to the compact nature of the dressing rooms, we ask that all students come to class fully dressed to dance. Dressing rooms will be closed. Students may take their dance bags into class with them.
The cafeteria will also be closed as we cannot safely accommodate our students. While we will continue to sell water, we ask that students bring their own water bottles in order to ensure students do not confuse or share bottles.
Additionally, the studio lobby will be limited to two (2) persons at a time. Should you need to conduct studio business, please notify the greeter at the door. Tuition payments may also be sent in with the students. Receipts will be given back to the students.
Anyone who is sick or has been in contact with someone who has COVID-19— including students, family members, teachers and staff — should not attend classes. Be on the lookout for symptoms of COVID-19, which include but are not limited to fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
If someone does get sick during class, we have plans in place to isolate the student until they can be picked up. If you have a specific question about this plan or COVID-19, please email us at for more information. You can also find more information about COVID-19 at www.cdc.gov.
We look forward to 2020-2021 season and seeing our students.
Thank you and stay healthy,
Scranton Civic Ballet Company
